totally worth the money by ktmonster
If you are like me and can’t stand the earbuds that come with all apple products you will love these. They are great for working out and they never pop out like the traditional earbuds do. Plus, the sound is amazing for such little earphones.
Great Workout Headphones by Matthew Grandy
These have already been pretty thoroughly reviewed, so I just want to point out a couple things that I haven’t seen mentioned very much about the V-Moda Vibes:
1. They have less sound-isolation than most IEMs, but it’s still enough to block out the majority of outside noise when there’s music playing.
2. Possibly because of #1, they are much less microphonic than any other IEM that I’ve tried (which includes several pairs of Ultimate Ears, Etys, and Shures), especially with the cable wrapped around the ears.
3. They are very lightweight, even as IEMs go.
These three points combine to make the Vibes excellent workout earphones. As much as I love IEMs for their isolation and sound quality, most are pretty much useless when doing anything active, because the microphonics are unbearable. Even when running, the microphonics of the Vibes are at a very manageable level. Combine this with the light weight (they don’t slip out of the ear as much) and the lower level of sound isolation (which I consider a good thing, since I can still hear when cars drive past), and you have some very functional active earphones.
That being said, I still prefer my UE Super.fi 4vi’s (can you tell I’m an iPhone user by my collection of earphones?) for general and critical listening. As others have said, the Vibe’s bass is very heavy, and I’ll generally try to balance this with the EQ. Clarity is not on par with some other IEMs in the $80-$150 range, but when I’m working out, I’m not listening critically, so this is not a huge issue for me.
One other thing I should mention: my first pair of these started exhibiting some very strange behavior. They would build up what I can only describe as some sort of static charge (especially when I rubbed my feet on carpet), and then when I would lift my feet, they’d discharge right into the left earpiece (and consequently, my left ear). As you can imagine, this was quite uncomfortable. I was convinced that this had to be the result of some sort of lack of grounding, or dry air, or something in the environment. However, it only occurred with the Vibes, and it happened whether they were plugged into a computer or a PMP. Finally, I sent them back to V-Moda, who promptly replaced them with a pair that did not shock me in the ear (props to V-Moda by the way for good service).
Awsome Headphones by Jacob Evans
These ear buds are great the quality of the ear bud it self is perfect, however, the cable is sort of an odd texture, but nothing I can’t live with.
The connector is probably the only negative i really have because the connector is plastic and feels really cheap, but the sound is so great with these things this is my second par the first pair was V-MODA Vibe Earbuds (Gunmetal Black)
these were awesome i recommend the gunmetal link over these flash chrome because of how they connect to the device.
Bass, boomy bass and perhaps flatulent bass by Eye Forget
I have a 3G, 2G Mini, 1G and 2G Shuffle and a Touch. Others phones include Senn PX100’s Koss PortaPro’s and Etymotic 6I’s. I’ve been using the Vibes for 6 months now.
Pros:
The most comfortable phones I’ve ever had, light and easily inserted in the ear.
Airy sound with an enormous soundstage for a bud.
Midrange and highs are clear, smooth and balanced — well done.
Cons:
Very accentuated bass. So much so that I find them unusable on the Touch which is a decent sounding iPod (same audio chip as 5G Classic). The bass is emphasized to the point of sounding like a terribly matched set of quality speakers and low quality sub. I plugged them into a $5,000 tube amp with a passive front-end and can confirm the issue is not in iPod land.
If you are not into tons of bass you need to be careful with these. They sound great on the 2G Mini which is a lean and airy sounding iPod. I actually went back to my Mini for portable listening as the Vibes are so comfortable.
